Scott Wietecha has won the Nashville marathon five times.

On Friday, Wietecha went through a usual day. He ran six miles before going to school. He’s a wellness teacher and cross country coach at Beech High School.

“The marathon can be so unpredictable after 20 miles or so, but I feel like I’ve prepared well,” said Wietecha.

He’s hoping to win his sixth marathon on Saturday.

“Mentally I’m in a pretty good spot and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Wietecha. “Last year, in the past, I kind of half-heartedly trained and it really showed, but this year I kind of learned from my mistakes and I’m ready to go, I think.”

Wietecha typically trains for different events, but Saturday’s race has been his priority.

“I do 100 miles a week, maybe 110, just trying to cover my bases and make sure I’m ready for the marathon distance.”

When asked whether Wietecha would win the marathon, his students believe he will.

“Yes I do. The closest person to him I think is going to get crushed,” said one student.

“He’s put in the mile in the work. I’m sure he can do it,” said another student.

“I don’t think anyone’s going to be beating him,” one student said.
